Choosing a location is the most important decision when planning a senior session. Your senior portrait location shapes the look of the session and inspires what types of outfits you will wear!

While this is not the complete location guide that my clients receive, this is a good start when looking at senior portrait locations.

Vancouver Waterfront Senior Portrait Photo Location in Vancouver, Washington.jpg

Downtown Vancouver Waterfront

This is one of the newest editions in my Select Location Guide, so I thought it would be a perfect one to share here. This is a manicured yet still natural-looking location right next to Downtown Vancouver.

You can find patches of flowers, which depending on the angle can look impressive and more like a field. You can also look forward to sweeping views of the Columbia River which is gorgeous during sunset. Be aware, this is a popular spot, so weekdays are always best for this location.

Downtown Vancouver

Next up would be Downtown Vancouver itself. There are so many hidden gem spots in the downtown area if you are willing to look for them! I of course have a few favorite spots that transport the look from Washington to golden California.

If the photographer you select doesn’t know where to go, take an afternoon with some friends and start scouting around. When finalizing spots, I recommend keeping the locations within walking distance of each other so you don’t have to constantly be paying for parking when moving around.

Fort Vancouver Senior Portrait Location in Vancouver, Washington.jpg

Fort Vancouver

An oldie but a goodie. This is a classic photo spot in Vancouver, Washington that has everything you are looking for. This is an ever-changing location depending on the season. Fort Vancouver features both a garden and a field area with trees.

If you are lucky, you can see sunflowers blooming in the garden and tall golden grass in the field. Be aware that they mow the field often, so make sure you are okay with shorter grass like the picture above. Be ready for beautiful golden lighting right before sunset!

Final Thoughts

Senior portraits should be a very personalized experience. I would consider a location that fits your personality, or better yet somewhere that means something to you. That could be a favorite childhood park, family farm, or a friend’s property.

Not everybody has a personal location, which is okay! That is where my Select Location Guide comes into play if you are one of my seniors. I share different locations in not only Vancouver Washington, but Portland Oregon, Newberg Oregon, Cannon Beach, and the Columbia River Gorge. You are guaranteed to find a location that matches your personality.
